In 1782 the 40th became the 40th (2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot and thereafter were posted to Australia serving in Sydney

In 1884 it arrived in Gibraltar and the following year the battalion took part in active service for the first time as a 2nd battalion when a detachment under the command of Lieutenant Scott was deployed as mounted infantry in the Nile Expedition

Included is Aluminum coffee pot stamped DMN39, with the Luftwaffe eagle and FL U. V. on underside. The pot has a hinged lid, large folding handle and is very good condition.
